..about James

James set up All Seasons in 1999 with a £500 Citroen C50 van that he hand painted green (badly) and £70 of second hand tools from a local auction. His passion for gardening began much earlier and had always been fascinated with nature. He’s also always been a great listener.

He studied Natural Environmental Science at Sheffield University then went on to win a scholarship at the renowned Wye College to study a MSC in Landscape Ecology Design and Management.

Fast forward 17 years. The Vans are now smartly liveried and the tools and equipment are housed in a vast barn. James is still as passionate and enthusiastic about gardens. His understanding of nature coupled with his empathy with his clients allows him to deliver gardens that are beautiful and bespoke. James creates gardens that relate to their environment whilst sitting sympathetically with the property and fulfilling the brief of the client.

When he’s not at work or playing with his three children James is busy…. gardening. He admits that gardens are an all consuming passion, he is constantly researching new ideas and methods to forward his designs.

Recently, he has been developing garden lighting techniques “to cast a bit of extra magic on to a garden.” As well as his gardens being made for All seasons it looks like they will be also enjoyable All night.

Favourite Season?

“The autumn is the most inspirational season for me.  I have nothing against the others, I just love the colours of the trees and the smell of fallen leaves.  The temperature is also perfect for me, not too hot and not too cold and the air seems fresher. It is the time when I can reflect on the success of our gardens throughout the year and consider where improvements can be made.  I quite like winter too, especially Christmas!!’
